Year 5 Teaching Assistant – 1:1 SEN Support 

Central Manchester, ASAP Start
Full-Time (Monday to Friday), Long-Term
£90 – £105 per day (dependent on experience)

GSL Education Manchester is currently working with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Central Manchester that is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 5 with cognitive delay.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for a confident and patient TA who can help scaffold learning and support the pupil in accessing the Year 5 curriculum in a structured and supportive way.

About the Role:

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support a Year 5 pupil on a 1:1 basis, helping them understand and access lessons across the curriculum.

The pupil benefits from consistent support to break down tasks, reinforce understanding, and maintain engagement throughout the school day.

For Maths, the pupil is working at approximately Year 2 level, so the role will involve supporting adapted work and reinforcing key foundational numeracy skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support within the Year 5 classroom

  • Scaffold learning and break down tasks across the curriculum

  • Support adapted Maths work at Year 2 level

  • Reinforce instructions and support understanding of lesson content

  • Promote independence, confidence, and engagement

  • Maintain clear behaviour expectations and positive routines

  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant or SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach

  • Confidence supporting pupils working below age-related expectations

  • Ability to scaffold and adapt learning activities

  • Patient, nurturing, and proactive attitude

  • Experience in KS2 is desirable

This role would particularly suit Teaching Assistants with experience supporting pupils with cognitive delay, learning difficulties, or SEN needs.
