Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £90 – £115 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are recruiting SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in primary, secondary, and specialist settings across Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a rewarding role for someone committed to supporting pupils who face emotional and behavioural barriers to learning.
About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement in learning. You will work closely with teaching and pastoral teams to provide consistent, structured support that helps pupils feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies

Help pupils re-engage with learning and classroom routines

Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff

Support inclusion, wellbeing, and safeguarding at all times
Requirements:

Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs (desirable)

Calm, patient, and resilient approach

Strong communication and relationship-building skills
-
Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a positive way

Flexible and reliable, able to adapt to different settings
-
No formal teaching qualification required

An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one with GSL Education
