Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: South Shields
Salary: £90 – £115 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-time | Part-time | Long-term & Day-to-day

GSL Education are currently recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to work in primary, secondary, and specialist schools across South Shields. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by supporting pupils with additional learning needs to access education and achieve positive outcomes.

About the Role:

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and physical or sensory needs. You will work closely with teachers and SEN staff to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEND

  • Support pupils’ learning, communication, and independence

  • Assist with implementing EHCP targets and support strategies

  • Promote positive behaviour, inclusion, and wellbeing

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff

  • Maintain safeguarding and school policies at all times

 

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND (desirable)

  • Patient, compassionate, and resilient approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to adapt support strategies to meet individual needs

  • Reliable, flexible, and committed to inclusive education

  • No formal teaching qualification required

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one with GSL Education
