Learning Support Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £1950 – £2491 per month
GSL Education is seeking a resilient, compassionate and proactive Learning Support Mentor to work full-time within a specialist SEMH provision in York.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people aged 5–16 who have experienced barriers to mainstream education and require structured, consistent and relationship-focused support to re-engage with learning.
About the Setting
This specialist provision supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may also have additional needs such as Autism, ADHD or trauma-related behaviours. The setting offers small class sizes, a strong pastoral ethos and a focus on emotional regulation, positive behaviour strategies and personalised learning pathways.
Staff work collaboratively to create a safe, nurturing environment where pupils can rebuild confidence, develop resilience and achieve both academic and personal success.
The Role
As a Learning Support Mentor, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Build strong, consistent relationships to promote trust and engagement.
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
- Assist in delivering tailored learning activities.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting confidence and self-esteem.
- Support reintegration and personal development goals.
We Are Looking For
- Experience working with SEMH, SEN or vulnerable young people.
- Background in education, youth work, sports coaching, behaviour support or mental health support.
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
- A calm, patient and consistent approach.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.
- Full-time availability.
