Behaviour Teaching Assistant
Location:
York, North Yorkshire

Start Date: As soon as possible; February 2026/March 2026
Salary: £23124 – £27258 per annum*

GSL Education is currently recruiting a full-time Behaviour Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils within a specialist education setting in York.

This role is ideal for a calm, resilient, and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting children with behavioural, social, and emotional needs, helping them to engage positively with learning and school life.

As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group behavioural support for primary-aged pupils.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and positive choices.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and follow individual strategies.
  • Help pupils re-engage with learning following dysregulation.
  • Promote positive behaviour, routines, and boundaries.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals.
  • Support pupils’ social development and confidence.
  • Assist with personal care where required.

As the Ideal Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Have experience working with children with behavioural needs, SEMH, or additional needs.
  • Be patient, consistent, and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Have a strong understanding of positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Be confident working with primary-aged pupils.
  • Be a reliable team player with a child-centred approach.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or is willing to apply).
