Primary SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: As soon as possible; February 2026/March 2026
Salary: £23124 – £27258 per annum*

GSL Education is currently recruiting a full-time Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist education setting in York.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and compassionate SEN TA who is passionate about supporting primary-aged pupils with a range of special educational needs.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for primary-aged pupils with complex SEN, including Autism and learning difficulties.
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Assist with personalised learning programmes and EHCP targets.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff.
  • Support personal care and daily routines where required.

As the Ideal Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Have experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant in a primary setting.
  • Be patient, nurturing, and resilient with a child-centred approach.
  • Have a strong understanding of SEN and inclusive practice.
  • Be confident supporting pupils with additional needs and behaviours that challenge.
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or is willing to apply).
