A welcoming and well supported primary school in Harlow is seeking a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work 1:1 with a child with autism. This is a full-time, long-term role to start as soon as possible, offering the chance to make a meaningful difference within a supportive school environment.

About the Role

As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to help the pupil access learning, develop social skills, and feel safe and confident throughout the school day. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team to implement tailored strategies that meet the child’s individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with autism

  • Supporting learning, communication, and emotional regulation

  • Helping the pupil engage with classroom activities and routines

  • Implementing strategies set out in EHCPs and individual support plans

  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive behaviour

  • Supporting social interaction and transitions throughout the day

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience supporting children with autism or SEN in a school or similar setting

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Resilience and consistency in supporting challenging moments

  • A genuine passion for helping children thrive

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
