Teaching Assistant – Hair and Beauty Learners
Location: York
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
Contract: Full-Time
Start Date: 19 January 2026
GSL Education are seeking a Teaching Assistant to support Hair and Beauty learners within a specialist Alternative Provision in the York area. This role is ideal for someone confident supporting pupils who follow vocational pathways and benefit from hands-on, structured learning experiences.
About the School
The provision offers a varied curriculum including core subjects, GCSEs and vocational programmes such as Hair and Beauty. Pupils often require additional emotional, behavioural or communication support, and benefit from practical learning, clear routines and consistent adult guidance.
Role Responsibilities
• Support pupils during Hair and Beauty sessions, both theory and practical.
• Encourage safe working practices and positive engagement.
• Assist with behaviour regulation, communication and confidence building.
• Help learners understand tasks, routines and vocational expectations.
• Work collaboratively with teaching and vocational staff to deliver personalised learning plans.
Requirements
• Experience supporting young people with SEND or SEMH needs.
• Interest or background in Hair and Beauty (not essential but an advantage).
• Strong communication, patience and the ability to build rapport.
• Confidence supporting behaviour and engagement in vocational settings.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
