Pay Rate: Up to £110 per day
Contract Type: Full time/Permanent

Are you passionate about supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? An exciting opportunity has arisen at a local school in Rotherham, who are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team and make a meaningful impact.

The school supports children and young people with SEMH and additional needs, providing a structured, supportive environment focused on emotional regulation, behaviour development and personal growth. They work with pupils from diverse backgrounds and place a strong emphasis on individualised support, clear routines and consistent relationships. About the Role:

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils who may experience emotional, behavioural or mental health barriers to learning. This role offers a valuable opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people by supporting both their academic engagement and emotional wellbeing.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

  • Implement behaviour and emotional regulation support strategies.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support engagement.

  • Assist with lesson delivery and adapt learning materials to meet individual needs.

  • Manage challenging behaviour using de-escalation and positive behaviour techniques.

  • Work closely with teachers and support staff to ensure consistent support.

  • Monitor, record and report on pupil progress and behaviour where required.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour.

  • A strong understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent in challenging situations.

  • A positive and proactive approach to supporting students with additional needs.
