SEN Teaching Assistants
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: Immediate
Salary: £85 - £110 per day

Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are currently seeking dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support students with additional needs at our Client Secondary school located in York, North Yorkshire, starting immediately.

About the School:

  • With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
  • Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
  • The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
  • The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
  • The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
  • One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with a range of additional needs.
  • Track and record student progress, offering feedback to the teaching team.
  • Contribute to lesson delivery by adapting activities to ensure learning is inclusive and engaging.
  • Apply strategies that promote students’ academic progress as well as their social and emotional growth.
  • Support emotional regulation techniques and help to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours.

SEN Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Must have the legal right to work in the UK.
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN or additional needs.
  • A strong commitment to supporting children and young people with SEN.
  • Relevant qualifications (such as CACHE or Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) are beneficial but not essential.
  • Have an enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the update service, or willingness to apply for one via GSL Education.
