Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)
Location: Rotherham
Pay Rate: £86 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time

Are you a compassionate and resilient individual passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education are looking for an SEMH TA to join a supportive SEMH school in Rotherham, which caters to both primary and secondary pupils. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact by helping young learners overcome barriers to education through patience, empathy, and consistent support.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in accessing learning and managing their behaviour in and outside of the classroom.
  • Use behavioural de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies on a daily basis.
  • Assist the class teacher in planning and delivering engaging, inclusive lessons that meet diverse learning needs.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to help pupils build confidence, resilience, and social skills.
  • Encourage positive relationships and create a calm, structured, and safe environment for learning.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement personalised learning and behaviour plans.


Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEMH or behavioural difficulties (school or care setting).
  • Strong communication, empathy, and de-escalation skills.
  • A calm, patient, and proactive attitude when supporting challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build trust with pupils.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps.
