SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire
Contract: Full-Time, Supply or Long-Term
Salary: £85 – £100 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support schools in Scunthorpe. This role is well-suited to individuals with experience in SEMH education, mental health services, or within HMPs, who are passionate about helping young people achieve their potential.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide personalised academic and emotional support to students who may face barriers to learning. You’ll work alongside teachers and SEN staff to encourage positive behaviour, improve engagement, and build students’ confidence and resilience.
Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs

Use behaviour management and de-escalation strategies effectively

Promote social, emotional, and academic development

Collaborate with teaching and pastoral teams to deliver tailored support
Requirements

Previous experience in an SEMH setting, mental health role, or HMPs

Strong behaviour management and interpersonal skills

Resilience, patience, and the ability to engage challenging learners

Mental health qualifications are desirable but not essential
