Exciting Opportunity: Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant – Supporting Deaf Students in Southampton, Hampshire (SO16)

GSL Education are seeking a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a welcoming secondary school in Southampton. This full-time role offers a rewarding opportunity to support Deaf students and those with Speech and Language Needs. The position starts from September 2025 or after October half term, with the potential for a permanent contract following a successful probation period.

About the Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll be working closely with Deaf students, helping them access learning and develop essential communication skills. You’ll be part of a supportive team in a school that values inclusion and personal growth.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide tailored assistance to Deaf students and those with speech and language challenges.
  • Assist teachers with lessons and classroom activities.
  • Deliver focused support to individual students to help them overcome barriers to learning.
  • Adapt to the needs of students and the school environment.
  • GSL Education offers training in Makaton and other communication strategies to help you succeed.

What We’re Looking in SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

  • You may have worked in a similar role or come from a care background supporting children with SEN or communication needs.
  • Makaton training is a plus, but we welcome those willing to learn.
  • Able to manage tasks and keep track of student progress.
  • Skilled at building strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Dependable and able to work independently.
  • Any relevant qualifications or training in education or SEN are an advantage.
