Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield, S5
Pay Rate: £95 – £120 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

Are you a compassionate and resilient individual with a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH TA to join a supportive school in Sheffield, S5. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll have a fulfilling chance to positively impact pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional, or mental health difficulties by helping them participate in their learning in a secure and nurturing setting.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing targeted 1:1 or small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Assisting in the development of personalised learning and behaviour support plans.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and emotional resilience within the classroom.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and self-esteem.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies to support pupil progress.

To be successful as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you should:

  • Have previous experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional learning needs.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills.
  • Be patient, adaptable, and committed to supporting pupil wellbeing.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or be willing to apply for one.
  • Provide a full, up-to-date CV with explanations for any gaps in employment over the last 10 years.
