SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) – Secondary School – Eastleigh, Hampshire

GSL Education seeks a full-time Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Eastleigh from September 2025 or after the October 2025 half term.

This role is based within the school’s resource base, supporting students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including those with Autism, Learning Difficulties, and Speech and Language Difficulties. The school values both experienced SEN practitioners and those with transferable skills from the care sector who have experience supporting children with SEN or physical disabilities.

Role Responsibilities of the SEN TA:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEN, ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively.
  • Implement strategies and interventions to support learning, communication, and social development.
  • Assist the class teacher in adapting learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Support students with personal care needs where required.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour in all learning environments.
  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals to achieve the best outcomes for each student.

Job Requirements of the SEN TA:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEN in an educational, care, or similar setting.
  • Understanding of autism, learning difficulties, and speech and language needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with students and colleagues.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
