Job Title: Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)

Pay Rate: £85 – £100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Sheffield. This role is perfect for someone who is patient, resilient, and eager to make a real difference in the lives of young learners facing emotional and behavioural challenges.

Role Overview:
As a Primary SEMH TA, you will work closely with individual pupils or small groups to support their emotional well-being and help them access the curriculum. Your support will play a crucial role in helping children develop confidence, self-regulation, and a positive attitude toward learning.

Responsibilities as a Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Foster positive relationships and act as a role model to promote appropriate behaviour and emotional resilience.
  • Implement strategies and support plans created by the class teacher or SENCO.
  • Encourage engagement in learning through tailored support and encouragement.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and outside agencies to support pupil progress.

Requirements for Primary SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour is essential.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and nurturing approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic in challenging situations.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full, up-to-date CV with explanations for any gaps in employment in the last 10 years.
