Academic Support (SEN) – Mainstream Primary School – Wimborne, Dorset
Start Date: September 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £13.68 per hour

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated Academic Support (SEN) professional to join a mainstream primary school in Wimborne, Dorset on a full-time, permanent basis starting in September 2025.
In this role, you will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to provide one-to-one and small group academic support for pupils with diverse learning needs. You will play a key role in ensuring that all pupils can access the curriculum, develop confidence, and make consistent progress.
What you have to do as an Academic Support (SEN):
- Provide targeted academic support to pupils with SEN
- Work one-to-one and in small groups to deliver tailored learning activities
- Assist teachers in adapting and differentiating lesson materials
- Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to staff and parents
- Promote positive behaviour, focus, and engagement in learning
- Support pupils in developing study skills, confidence, and independence
- Collaborate with the SENCo, teaching staff, and external professionals to meet EHCP targets
- Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment
Skills & Requirements for an Academic Support (SEN):
- Previous experience supporting children with SEN in an educational or care setting is desirable
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare
- A degree in Psychology, SEN, Counselling or a similar field
- A patient, empathetic, and encouraging approach to working with children
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for helping children achieve success
- Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
