About the Role

As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you’ll work closely with students who have additional learning needs, supporting them both academically and emotionally. You’ll collaborate with teachers and SENCOs to create a positive and engaging learning experience tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Key Responsibilities of SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

  • Support the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) for students with SEN.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to help students access the curriculum.
  • Monitor and record student progress, sharing insights with teaching staff.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment.
  • Use creative and adaptive strategies to engage learners with diverse needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Assist with personal care and emotional regulation when required.

Requirements for SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

  • Previous experience in a Teaching Assistant or SEN support role.
  • Understanding of a range of special educational needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in SEN (desirable but not essential).

  • An enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
