MFL Teacher – Secondary School – Portsmouth, Hampshire
Start Date: September 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Are you an inspiring Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teacher ready to motivate and engage students in their language learning journey?

GSL Education are recruiting for a passionate MFL Teacher to join a supportive mainstream secondary school in Portsmouth, Hampshire, starting September 2025. This is a full-time, permanent role offering a salary between £30,000 and £50,000 per annum, depending on experience. Applications are welcomed from Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) holders, Early Career Teachers (ECTs), and suitably qualified overseas-trained teachers.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver high-quality teaching in modern foreign languages, helping students develop confidence and fluency in communication, while promoting cultural awareness.

Responsibilities of a Teacher of MFL:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in one or more modern foreign languages (French, Spanish, German, etc.)
  • Teach across Key Stages, supporting students of varying abilities to achieve progress
  • Monitor and assess pupil performance, providing constructive feedback and guidance
  • Foster enthusiasm for languages and cultural understanding within the classroom
  • Maintain excellent classroom management in line with school policies
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the MFL department and across the wider school
  • Contribute to extracurricular opportunities such as language clubs, trips, or cultural events
  • Stay updated with curriculum changes and adopt best practices in teaching MFL

Requirements for an MFL Teacher:

  • QTS, ECT, or overseas-qualified teacher status
  • A degree in French, German, Spanish, or a related subject area
  • Experience working as an MFL Teacher across secondary schools.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for teaching languages
  • Ability to inspire students and encourage progress at all ability levels
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
  • Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
