Cover Supervisor – Secondary School – Portsmouth, Hampshire
Start Date: September 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time

Are you confident in leading a classroom and passionate about supporting secondary-aged students in their learning journey?

GSL Education are seeking a full-time Cover Supervisor to join a mainstream secondary school in Portsmouth, Hampshire. This exciting opportunity is available from September 2025. You will be offered a competitive daily rate of £94 to £140, depending on your experience. This role is ideal for individuals with experience working with young people who are considering a career in education or looking to gain valuable classroom experience.

Cover Supervisor (CS) Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities to classes in the absence of the regular teacher
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and productive classroom environment
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively, following the school’s behaviour policies
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding student progress or issues
  • Assist students with their learning when required, encouraging engagement and understanding
  • Supervise students during lesson transitions, break times, and other non-teaching periods
  • Ensure that any incidents or concerns are reported appropriately to senior staff

Cover Supervisor (CS) Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an educational, mentoring, or coaching capacity or as a Cover Supervisor
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or childcare
  • A degree in Education, psychology or a similar field.
  • Confident, resilient, and adaptable approach to classroom management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for working with secondary-aged learners
  • Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
