SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Stanley (WF3)
Salary: £95 – £120 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long term, Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in schools across Stanley. This rewarding role involves working closely with pupils who face barriers to learning due to SEMH difficulties. You will help them build confidence, improve their emotional wellbeing, and succeed both socially and academically.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you have tooffer a safe, structured, and caring environment for students with social, emotional, mental health and additional needs, with a strong focus on personal development and emotional regulation. You have to collaborate with teachers, staffs effectively to ensure that all learners feel understood, respected, and empowered to reach their potential.

SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small group basis.
  • Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional resilience.
  • Assist with classroom learning activities in line with the national curriculum and EHCPs.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to support student progress.
  • Encourage engagement, independence, and confidence in students’ learning and development.

Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting students with SEMH or behavioural needs is essential.
  • A calm, consistent, and empathetic approach to behaviour management.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance preferred (not essential).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection expectations.
  • Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
