Academic Support
Location: Christchurch, Dorset
Salary: £13.68 per hour
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Part-Time considered for the right candidate)

GSL Education are seeking a motivated and caring Academic Support professional to join a thriving mainstream primary school in Christchurch, Dorset. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about helping pupils reach their full potential and contribute positively to their learning journey.
As an Academic Support professional, you will work closely with teachers and pupils to provide targeted assistance in key subjects, classroom support, and small group interventions. You will help maintain a focused learning environment and play a key role in pupil development.
Academic Support Responsibilities:
- Provide classroom support for pupils across a range of subjects and abilities.
- Assist teachers with the preparation and delivery of engaging lessons.
- Support students individually or in small groups to boost academic progress.
- Encourage and motivate pupils to participate fully in class activities.
- Help manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
- Assist with tracking pupil progress and offering feedback to teaching staff.
- Foster positive relationships with pupils, helping to build confidence and resilience.
- Contribute to the development of learning resources and classroom displays.
- Supervise pupils during non-teaching times such as lunch and break periods.
- Support pupils in developing literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills.
Requirements for an Academic Support:
- Experience working in an academic support or classroom assistant role.
- A genuine passion for education and supporting young learners.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Teaching Assistance/Childcare, or equivalent qualification (desirable).
- A degree in Education, Psychology or a similar field.
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures and school policies.
- Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
