Primary Teaching Assistant
Location: Poole, Dorset
Salary: £13.68 per hour
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Part-Time considered for the right candidate)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Primary Teaching Assistant to work in a well-established mainstream primary school in Poole. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity starting from September 2025, with flexibility for part-time arrangements for suitable candidates.
As a Primary Teaching Assistant (Primary TA), you will support the class teacher in promoting a stimulating and nurturing learning environment. You will work closely with pupils across all primary year groups, helping them with their learning, social skills, and emotional development.
Responsibilities of a Primary Teaching Assistant
- Support class teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils needing additional help.
- Assist with preparing lesson materials and maintaining classroom displays.
- Foster a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere in line with school values.
- Supervise pupils during non-classroom times, such as breaks and lunchtimes.
- Aid in managing behaviour and supporting children with emotional needs.
- Track and report on pupil progress in collaboration with teaching staff.
- Encourage pupil independence and self-confidence through guided activities.
- Support the planning and delivery of interventions in core subjects.
- Help with extracurricular activities and accompany pupils on school trips.
Primary Teaching Assistant (Primary TA) Requirements
- Previous experience working in a UK primary school or childcare setting as a Teaching assistant or a similar role.
- Strong communication and teamworking skills.
- A nurturing, proactive approach to helping children learn and grow.
- Understanding of safeguarding and classroom management practices.
- CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ in Teaching Assistant/Childcare, or equivalent qualification (desirable).
- A degree in Education, Psychology or a similar field.
- Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
