Classroom Assistant
Location: Bournemouth, Dorset
Salary: £13.68 per hour
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Part-Time considered for the right candidate)

GSL Education are currently seeking a dedicated Classroom Assistant for a reputable mainstream primary school in Bournemouth. This is a full-time, permanent position beginning in September 2025, with flexibility for part-time for suitable candidates.
As a Classroom Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ learning and development under the direction of the classroom teacher. Your work will involve both group-based and individual support, ensuring every child is engaged, motivated, and thriving in the classroom environment.
Responsibilities of a Classroom Assistant:
- Support teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons in the classroom.
- Work one-to-one with pupils who need additional academic or emotional support.
- Assist with preparing learning materials, displays, and classroom resources.
- Supervise and assist pupils during break times, lunchtimes, and transitions.
- Help manage pupil behaviour in line with the school’s positive behaviour policy.
- Offer support during assessments and help track pupil progress.
- Foster a safe and positive learning environment for all pupils.
- Provide targeted literacy and numeracy support to groups or individuals.
- Collaborate with teaching staff and parents to support pupil development.
- Accompany pupils on school trips and assist with extracurricular activities as needed.
Classroom Assistant Requirements:
- Experience working in a primary school or educational setting as a Classroom Assistant or similar in the UK.
- CACHE Level 2/3 or equivalent childcare/education qualifications (desirable).
- A degree in Education, Psychology or a similar field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with pupils and staff.
- Ability to manage behaviour positively and follow school routines.
- Knowledge of the primary curriculum and classroom practices.
- Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
