Behaviour Support Assistant – Secondary School – Chichester, West Sussex
Start Date: September 2025 or October 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time
Are you committed to supporting students facing behavioural and emotional challenges within a secondary school environment?
GSL Education are seeking a full-time Behaviour Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Chichester. Starting in September or October 2025, dependent on notice periods, this role offers the chance to work closely with the Pastoral Team supporting students who have been removed from classes due to behavioural issues. You will also provide support to pupils experiencing Anxiety, Depression, and other SEMH needs.
There are opportunities for progression through the pay grades as experience is gained.
To be a successful Behaviour Support Assistant, your responsibilities will be:
- Collaborate with the Pastoral Team to support students removed from mainstream lessons due to behaviour
- Provide support for students with SEMH difficulties such as Anxiety and Depression
- Assist with the reintegration of students back into lessons
- Promote a calm, safe, and supportive environment for vulnerable pupils
- Work alongside teaching staff to monitor student behaviour and wellbeing
Requirements for Behaviour Support Assistant:
- Experience supporting young people with behavioural and SEMH needs, preferably in a school setting
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or similar is desirable but not mandatory
- A degree in SEN, Psychology or a similar field.
- Empathetic, patient, and able to maintain calm under pressure
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A clear understanding of safeguarding and student welfare
- Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
