Spanish Language Assistant – Secondary School – Portsmouth, Hampshire
Start Date: September 2025 or October 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time

Are you passionate about supporting students’ language learning and wellbeing in a vibrant secondary school setting?

GSL Education are seeking a full-time Spanish Language Assistant to join a secondary school in Portsmouth. This role begins in September or October 2025, depending on notice periods. You will work closely with the Spanish department, supporting students both in lessons and in small intervention groups. Additionally, you will provide support for students experiencing Anxiety, Depression, and other SEMH challenges.

This position offers great opportunities for professional development and progression through pay grades as experience grows.

As a Spanish Language Assistant, your responsibilities will be:

  • Assist Spanish teachers in delivering engaging language lessons
  • Support students in small intervention groups to improve language skills
  • Work sensitively with students experiencing SEMH difficulties to support their engagement
  • Collaborate with teaching and support staff to monitor student progress
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment

Skills & Requirements for Spanish Language Assistant:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational setting, ideally with modern foreign languages, special educational needs
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or similar is desirable but not mandatory
  • A degree in Spanish, MFL, SEN or a similar field.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
  • Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
