Job description

GSL Education is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and forward-thinking school community in Portsmouth. This is a fulfilling opportunity to support students with additional needs as they grow in confidence, independence, and academic success.

About the School:
This vibrant secondary school, part of a well-regarded multi-academy trust, is located in the heart of Portsmouth. The school is driven by a clear vision: to inspire learners to flourish academically and personally through high expectations, strong relationships, and a commitment to excellence.

Students are empowered to become confident, respectful, and ambitious individuals. With a strong culture of inclusion, the school works hard to remove barriers and provide a nurturing environment where every child feels seen, supported, and valued.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A patient, proactive, and resilient individual with a genuine interest in Special Educational Needs (SEN).

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.

  • Previous experience with SEN students is desirable, but a caring attitude and willingness to learn are just as important.

  • University students with relevant aspirations are also encouraged to apply.

  • An understanding of a range of SEN needs, including Autism and SEMH, is highly valued.

Role Highlights:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 and small group support for students with SEN.

  • Help deliver tailored interventions and classroom strategies based on individual learning plans.

  • Support students in developing social, emotional, and behavioural skills.

  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and wider pastoral teams.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe and encouraged.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be:

  • Empathetic, encouraging, and adaptable.

  • Passionate about inclusive education and supporting all learners to succeed.

  • Comfortable working with students who have Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional needs.

  • DBS checked and registered on the update service (or willing to apply).

  • Aware of safeguarding and child protection practices.
