Full-time 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Primary School – Poole
Start Date: September 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are seeking a full-time 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Poole from September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a lasting difference in the life of a child with SEMH needs by providing dedicated one-to-one support throughout the school day.
The ideal candidate will have specific experience working in a school setting, supporting pupils with SEMH. Interviews are being arranged immediately to ensure a smooth transition into the new academic year.
Responsibilities of a 1:1 Teaching Assistant (TA):
- Offer consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH, helping them regulate emotions and engage with learning
- Build a strong, trusting relationship with the child to provide emotional security and academic encouragement
- Implement behaviour support strategies in line with the school's approach
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher and SENCo to personalise support and review progress
- Promote a safe, calm, and structured learning environment throughout the school day
Requirements for 1:1 Teaching Assistant:
- Experience working with children who have SEMH in a school setting
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or childcare is desirable but not essential.
- A degree in Psychology, SEN, Counselling or a similar field is desirable but not essential.
- Patience, empathy, and a strong sense of emotional intelligence
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
