Classroom Teaching Assistant
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: £83 - £100 per day

About the School:
- With an emphasis on SEN children, this school is for secondary aged students, aged from 11 - 19 years which aims to provide SEN students and staff with exceptional standards of care and education.
- Every student at the School has a learning disability, and some of them also require extra special education services due to physical or sensory needs.
- The school provides its students with a customized, individualized curriculum that is in line with their needs and goals and closely related to the outcomes listed in each child's Education, Health, and Care Plan.
- The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options of accessible and relevant topics to help students develop what is relevant to them and their identified EHCP broad areas of need.
- The curriculums at the school have been created after four years of intensive research into SEND as well as visits, research, and interactions with exceptional settings.
- One of the main goals of the school is to prepare students for adulthood.
Classroom Teaching Assistant requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people, preferably in a SEN setting.
- Knowledge of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Conditions, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, and other learning difficulties.
- A relevant qualification such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning is desirable.
- Be able to engage with young people and build effective relationships.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
Classroom Teaching Assistant duties:
- Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons to meet the needs of individual students.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support, helping students overcome barriers to learning.
- Support students with a range of special educational needs.
- Use strategies, in liaison with the relevant staff members, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
- Help manage behavior positively and consistently, using de-escalation strategies where required.
- Assist with the preparation and organization of teaching materials and resources.
- Promote independence and confidence in students.
