Teaching Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Salary: £83 - £100 per day

Start Date: September 2025

GSL Education are seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant to work at a Client Primary School, located in York, North Yorkshire, starting September 2025.

  • The school currently works with students who have a wide range of additional needs, such as dyslexia, physical disabilities, issues with speech, language, and communication, conditions on the autism spectrum, more general learning difficulties, individuals with rare syndromes, impairments to hearing and vision, and attention deficit disorders.

Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualised support to a student with special needs.
  • Work with students on 1:1 or small group basis whenever required.
  • Use appropriate strategies to manage student’s behaviour.
  • Be patient and have a kind and caring approach.
  • Build strong, trusting bonding with student.
  • Provide emotional support during challenging situations.

Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience supporting students with special needs.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools/EYFS).
  • Experience in education, child development, or mental health support is desirable.
  • Have a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.
  • Hold a Child only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
