Job Title: SEN Support Assistant
Location: Tyne and Wear
Salary: £13.68 - £20.00 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: September
Contract Type: Long-Term
We are recruiting on behalf of a well regarded College in Tyne and Wear
The college is a supportive and forward thinking provider of Education to 16-25 year old with various needs and barriers. We require Supporting assistants for this specialist Department. You will support learners throughout their college day and will be involved with all aspects of their care along with their academic outcomes.
The position is 30 hours per week on supply starting in September . This role has a strong chance of becoming permanent
To apply you MUST have the following
- Good general level of education to L2 or equivalent including English and Maths
- Qualification or training in personal care and manual handling
- Understanding of the barriers faced by students with additional support needs
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good IT skills with the ability to record effectively using both paper and electronic systems
- Able to work flexibly including off site/evening working
- Able to deliver care in a way which maintains the dignity of students
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Able to obtain a satisfactory DBS clearance
Desirable but not essential
- Training/qualification in disability awareness
- Teaching or support qualification or significant experience
- Supporting learners with SEND or additional learning needs
- Delivering personal care in an education or similar setting
- Working in an education or care setting
- Supporting learners who exhibit challenging behaviour
- Understanding of FE funding, quality and inspection frameworks
- Understanding of teaching, learning and assessment strategies
- Understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and Preparing for Adulthood agenda
