Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant – Learning Disabilities & Behaviour Support
Location: Durrington
Salary: £90 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-time, Long-term

Are you experienced in supporting children with learning disabilities or behaviour needs? Or are you keen to build a career in a supportive SEN setting?

GSL Education is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Durrington. The setting supports pupils aged 5–16 with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and behaviours that challenge.

About the Role:
This is a practical, hands-on support role where you’ll work closely with a small group of pupils, helping them engage with a tailored curriculum that focuses on communication, life skills, and emotional regulation. The school offers a structured and nurturing environment where teamwork, patience, and consistency are key.

Experience with de-escalation strategies, behaviour plans, sensory tools, or supporting non-verbal pupils will be an advantage — but if you're keen to learn and grow in the role, training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with complex needs

  • Support communication using tools like PECS or Makaton

  • Use routines, visual schedules, and emotional regulation strategies

  • Promote independence, learning, and social interaction

  • Work closely with class teachers, therapists, and families

  • Assist with personal care or mobility support where needed (training provided)

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children with SEND, particularly learning disabilities or behaviour needs

  • Calm, caring, and consistent approach

  • Understanding of safeguarding and willingness to undertake relevant training

  • Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

What We Offer:

  • Daily rate of £90–£110

  • Ongoing support from a dedicated education consultant

  • Opportunities to grow your SEN expertise within a supportive team

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
