SEN Support Worker
Location: Dorchester
Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate or September 2025
Contract Type: Full-time / Permanent

GSL Education are currently seeking a reliable and compassionate SEN Support Worker to join an inclusive alternative provision school in Dorchester. This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys helping students overcome barriers and reach their full potential both emotionally and academically.
About the role:
As an SEN Support Worker, you will provide individualised assistance to students who require additional guidance, including those with behavioural, emotional, and social needs. Your support will help create a consistent, structured, and encouraging learning environment.
About the School:
The client school encompasses two sites in Dorchester with one common shared purpose: to provide the very best in education and support for all children who (for a variety of reasons) find themselves outside of mainstream school education. The school is an alternative provision that uses vocational and extracurricular methods to enable the students to gain functional and life skills. With a primary and secondary division, the school is inclusive of all ages and abilities and strives to give its pupils the best possible opportunities for post-16 life.
To be a successful SEN Support Worker, your responsibilities will be:
- Provide targeted support for students with SEN, including those with complex emotional or behavioural needs.
- Support students in the classroom, during activities, and around the school site.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
- Assist with managing behaviour and implementing personalised strategies.
- Collaborate with staff and external professionals to meet individual student needs.
- Promote a calm, safe, and respectful school environment.
Requirements for a SEN Support Worker:
- Experience working with young people with SEN, ideally in an education or care setting.
- CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistance, Health & Social Care, or similar is desirable.
- A degree in Psychology, SEN, Counselling or a similar field is desirable but not essential
- A patient, resilient, and adaptable approach.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle challenging situations calmly.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
To thrive in the SEN Support Worker role, you should:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
- Possess an enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
