Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate or September 2025
Contract Type: Full-time / Permanent

GSL Education are currently looking for an enthusiastic and supportive Activities Support Assistant to join a fantastic alternative provision school in Dorchester. This is a brilliant opportunity to work hands-on with children and young people who thrive outside of traditional learning environments. In this role, you will support students with varying needs during structured and enrichment activities designed to boost their confidence, develop life skills, and re-engage them in their educational journey.
The School:
The client school encompasses two sites in Dorchester with one common shared purpose: to provide the very best in education and support for all children who (for a variety of reasons) find themselves outside of mainstream school education. The school is an alternative provision that uses vocational and extracurricular methods to enable the students to gain functional and life skills. With a primary and secondary division, the school is inclusive of all ages and abilities and strives to give its pupils the best possible opportunities for post-16 life.
Main Responsibilities of an Activities Support Assistant:
- Assist with the planning and delivery of vocational, sports, outdoor, and creative activities.
- Support pupils in developing personal, social, and emotional skills through enrichment sessions.
- Encourage participation, teamwork, and positive interaction.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils who may present behavioural or emotional challenges.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, mentors, and other support staff.
- Promote a safe and inclusive environment at all times.
Skills & Requirements for an Activities Support Assistant:
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision setting.
- CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ Level 2/3, or similar qualifications in education, childcare, or youth work are desirable.
- A creative, flexible, and energetic approach.
- Ability to engage students through hands-on and practical learning activities.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing.
