Salary: £13.68 - £16.12 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEN Support Worker to join a specialist educational setting in Wareham. If you are looking for a fulfilling role where you can help young people gain independence, confidence, and meaningful skills, this could be the perfect fit.

About the School: The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills, and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils. 

Responsibilities of the SEN Support Worker:

  • Provide one-to-one and group support for students with special educational needs during classroom lessons and practical vocational activities.
  • Assist learners in developing life skills and employability through hands-on experiences in areas such as horticulture, agriculture, animal care, and equine studies.
  • Help implement and monitor individual education plans and support students in achieving their personal targets.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and social development in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
  • Support the maintenance and safe use of tools, equipment, and outdoor facilities throughout the 350-acre campus.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and other professionals to ensure consistent and personalised support for each student.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting individuals with special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, or communication needs.
  • A genuine interest in vocational and outdoor learning, with a willingness to take part in activities such as horticulture, agriculture, equine care, and animal husbandry.
  • The ability to work across a large rural campus and in all weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Ideally need a valid driving license and be willing to drive.
  • A patient, adaptable, and proactive attitude with a focus on promoting independence and wellbeing.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
