Job Title: SEN TA – Behaviour & Emotional Support
Location: Newhaven
Salary: £90 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term

A supportive and forward-thinking primary school in Newhaven is looking for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role focuses on providing behavioural and emotional support to pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Responsibilities of the SEN TA – Behaviour & Emotional Support:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour management plans and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Support the class teacher in maintaining a structured and inclusive learning environment.
  • Encourage positive social interaction, self-esteem, and confidence
  • Record and report behavioural incidents and progress to SENCO and teaching staff.
  • Work closely with pastoral teams, families, and external agencies when needed.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and supportive space for learning.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or SEN in general.
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour management.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA, SEN or mental health training) are desirable.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
