Design and Technology Lab Technician
Location: Hull
Salary: £100 – £125 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Day-to-Day / Long-Term; Full-Time / Part-Time
Are you a practical and detail-oriented individual with a passion for design and technology education?
GSL Education are currently seeking a skilled Design and Technology Lab Technician to support secondary schools across Hull. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in workshop management, engineering, or D&T education who enjoys working in a creative and hands-on environment.
As a DT Technician, you will work alongside teaching staff to ensure the smooth operation of the design and technology department. You will play a key role in preparing equipment and materials for lessons, maintaining a safe working environment, and supporting students in using tools and machinery responsibly.
Key Responsibilities of Design and Technology Lab Technician:
- Prepare and set up materials, tools, and equipment for D&T lessons
- Maintain and repair workshop tools and machinery in line with health and safety regulations
- Support pupils and staff during practical lessons, including demonstrations when required
- Manage stock levels and order supplies for the department
- Ensure the classroom and workshop areas are clean, safe, and organised
- Assist with displays and the presentation of students’ work
- Uphold health and safety procedures and assist in risk assessments
DT Technician Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar Design and Technology Technician role, preferably within a school setting
- Strong understanding of tools, machinery, and materials used in DT lessons
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations relevant to workshop environments
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Relevant qualifications or experience in design technology, engineering, or workshop-based subjects
- Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply through GSL Education
