Behaviour Support Assistant – Pupil Referral Unit
Tower Hamlets | Full-time, Term-time only | September 2025 Start
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Tower Hamlets, supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviours.
About the Role
Starting in September 2025, this is a full-time, term-time only position. You will work 1:1 and in small groups to support pupils who may struggle in mainstream settings due to emotional or behavioural difficulties. Your role will be key in helping students engage with learning, manage their emotions, and make positive choices in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities

Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement

Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to implement strategies and behaviour plans

Help maintain a calm and structured learning environment

Support the emotional wellbeing and personal development of pupils
Requirements
-
Proven experience working with challenging behaviour or students with SEMH needs (in school, care, or similar settings)

Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

Empathetic, patient and resilient approach to support

Able to commit full-time during term time from September 2025

A team player with a genuine passion for helping young people succeed
Desirable

Experience in a PRU or alternative provision

Team Teach or similar behaviour training

Relevant qualifications in education, youth work or psychology
