Learning Support Assistant – Secondary School | Portsmouth

GSL Education is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a vibrant secondary school in Portsmouth. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity starting in September, with interviews taking place next week. Ideal for candidates ready to hit the ground running.
The Role:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll be a key part of the support network within the school, helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. The role is dynamic one day, you may be working alongside a teacher in a mainstream classroom: the next, offering targeted support to students with additional needs such as autism, dyslexia, ADHD or social, emotional and mental health challenges.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students on a 1:1 or small group basis across various subjects
- Assisting the classroom teacher in lesson delivery and resource preparation
- Encouraging engagement and participation from all students
- Promoting inclusion and fostering a safe, supportive learning environment
- Liaising with SENCOs, teachers and external professionals to meet student needs

Candidate Requirements:
- Experience supporting young people, ideally within a school or youth work setting
- A passion for education and helping young people thrive
- Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills
- A Child Workforce DBS registered to the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through GSL
