Cover Supervisor – Secondary Schools – Basingstoke, Hampshire
Start Date: September 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are currently recruiting full-time Cover Supervisors to work across a variety of secondary schools in Basingstoke, Hampshire, starting from September 2025. This is an ideal opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or individuals with prior classroom experience who are confident in managing behaviour and engaging students. With flexible working options available, you can choose the days that suit your schedule, with up to 5 days per week on offer.
This rewarding role involves leading lessons in the absence of the class teacher, supporting students with their assigned work, and maintaining a focused and respectful classroom environment.
As a Cover Supervisor (CS), your responsibilities will be:
- Supervise and lead classes in the absence of the regular teacher
- Ensure students stay focused and follow school rules
- Support students as they complete set work across various subjects
- Assist with classroom routines such as registration and transitions
- Ensure a calm, productive learning atmosphere and manage classroom behaviour
- Communicate effectively with teaching staff regarding any issues or student progress
- Adapt to different school environments while building rapport with students
Requirements for Cover Supervisor:
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Confident, adaptable, and able to take initiative in busy settings
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare is desirable but not essential.
- Suitable for graduates or aspiring teachers looking to gain classroom experience
- Previous experience working with secondary-aged pupils as a Cover Supervisor or similar (desirable)
- Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
