Cover Supervisor – Secondary Schools – Southampton, Hampshire
Start Date: September 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are currently looking to recruit a full-time Cover Supervisor (CS) to work across secondary schools in Southampton, Hampshire, starting from September 2025. This is a flexible role, ideal for graduates or aspiring teachers looking to gain classroom experience before embarking on teacher training. With the option to choose the days you wish to work—up to 5 days a week—you can tailor your schedule to suit your needs.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading classrooms during teacher absences, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and managing classroom behaviour effectively. You will support students in completing set work and ensure a calm, productive environment is maintained.
Cover Supervisor (CS) Responsibilities:
- Supervise classes during teacher absence, ensuring students complete the set work
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
- Provide support and encouragement to students during lessons
- Communicate effectively with teaching staff regarding student progress and behaviour
- Adapt to a range of subjects and classroom settings across different schools
- Communicate any issues or student concerns to relevant staff promptly
- Foster a supportive and respectful learning environment
Requirements:
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- A flexible, professional attitude and the ability to take initiative
- Experience working with secondary-aged students as a Cover Supervisor or similar(desirable)
- Ideal for recent graduates or those interested in a future career in teaching
- CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare is desirable but not essential.
- Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
