Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)
Location: Chesterfield
Salary: £86 - £100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start: Immediate
Contract: Full-time

A supportive and specialist secondary provision in Chesterfield is seeking a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team. This rewarding role involves working with students aged 11–16 who face challenges linked to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The position is full-time only, and due to travel requirements, candidates must hold a full UK driving licence with business insurance.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour and promoting positive emotional development.
  • Support pupils both in and out of the classroom, including during off-site activities.
  • Implement and adapt individual behaviour and learning support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support engagement and self-confidence.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH or additional needs (school or alternative provision preferred).
  • A full UK driving licence with business insurance is essential.
  • Excellent behaviour management and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging situations.
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of vulnerable pupils.
  • An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.
