Are you ready to provide one-to-one support that promotes inclusion and emotional well-being for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

If so, GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) to join a supportive school in Alvaston. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with students who have additional needs, supporting their progress and helping to build their confidence in a nurturing environment.

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will give individual support to a student with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You will help the student with their learning, social skills, communication, and behaviour. This includes helping them with classwork, explaining tasks in an easier way, and giving encouragement throughout the day. Your support will help the student take part in lessons and feel included in the classroom.

 1:1 SEN TA Responsibilities:

  • Assist student with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in the classroom with individualised one-on-one help.
  • Help the student understand class instructions and encourage their active participation in learning.
  • Monitor the student’s progress and share feedback with teachers and SEN support staff.
  • Promote the student’s independence while offering support when needed.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and help with emotional regulation.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the student and the wider school team, including the SENCO.

1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in one-to-one SEN support such as a 1:1 Teaching Assistant role or a similar setting, is desirable.
  • A degree in Education, Psychology, or a related subject is an advantage.
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance are preferred.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good understanding of how to support children and young people with different SEN needs.

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
