Job Title: Behaviour Support Worker
Location: Alvaston, Derby
Salary: £110–£120 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are thrilled to present an incredible opportunity for a compassionate Behaviour Support Worker to join a supportive school in Alvaston. This role is perfect for someone who wants to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour, or additional learning barriers.
Position Summary:
As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will work closely with students who may show signs of emotional or behavioural difficulties. Your role will be to help manage and de-escalate challenging situations, support emotional regulation, and promote positive behaviour in and out of the classroom. You will work 1:1 or in small groups to build trusting relationships and help students feel more confident and included in their learning environment.
Key Responsibilities—Behavior Support Worker:
- Provide focused support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs or those who show difficult behaviour, during both classroom time and unstructured times like lunch and break.
- Work closely with class teachers and other staff to follow positive behaviour strategies and support plans that meet the individual needs of students.
- Help students understand and manage their emotions, stay calm in stressful situations, and build confidence and self-control.
- Support students in improving their social skills, such as working with others, making friends, and showing respect.
- Encourage students to join in lessons and school activities by creating a safe, respectful, and welcoming learning environment.
- Record any behaviour incidents clearly and accurately and help to review and update behaviour or support plans as needed.
Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges is desirable.
- Understanding of conditions such as ADHD, Autism, trauma, and anxiety.
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in difficult situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Resilience, empathy, and a positive approach to problem-solving.
- A good sense of boundaries, patience, and strong team-working skills.
- Must have an Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or be willing to apply through GSL Education.
