Pastoral Support Assistant - Chichester, West Sussex

A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Chichester is seeking a Full-Time Pastoral Support Assistant to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is committed to pupil wellbeing and behaviour support. The role is full-time, with a fixed-term contract available after completing the probation period.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated pastoral support to students across all year groups to help improve attendance, wellbeing, and engagement.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, Heads of Year, SENCOs, and external agencies to identify and address barriers to learning.
  • Offer one-to-one or small group support to students with behavioural, emotional, or mental health challenges.
  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging situations using consistent and supportive approaches.
  • Promote positive behaviour and social skills across the school through intervention and mentoring.
  • Record and report safeguarding concerns in line with school policy.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational or youth setting (pastoral, mentoring, support work, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, inclusion, and behaviour management practices.
  • Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to challenging situations appropriately.
  • A commitment to the wellbeing and success of all students.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
