SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School – Andover, Hampshire
Start Date: September 2025 | Contract Type: Full-Time

Are you experienced in supporting young people with special educational needs and looking to make a lasting impact within a specialist school environment?

GSL Education are currently seeking a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Andover from September 2025. This position is based within the school’s resource base, supporting students with Autism and Learning Difficulties. The role offers a supportive pathway with opportunities to move through the pay grades and transition into a permanent contract after a successful probation period.

The school is happy to consider candidates from care backgrounds who have experience supporting children or young people with SEN.

SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with Autism and Learning Difficulties
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum and adapting learning tasks to suit their individual needs
  • Collaborate with class teachers and SEN staff to deliver tailored learning programmes
  • Support emotional and social development in a calm, structured environment
  • Help maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour
  • Promote independence, confidence, and positive engagement in learning

Requirements for SEN TA:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, ideally Autism and learning needs
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or Childcare is desirable but not mandatory
  • A background in care or education with transferable skills
  • Calm, empathetic, and patient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
