Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)
Location: Sheffield
Salary Range: £95 -£120 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Time: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are currently recruiting passionate and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs at a welcoming school in Sheffield. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.

Role Overview:

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students who experience barriers to learning due to emotional or behavioural difficulties. Working in a structured environment, your role will be to provide one-to-one and small group support, helping students manage their emotions, build self-confidence and remain engaged in education.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Offer tailored support to pupils with SEMH challenges, helping them stay focused and emotionally regulated.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual learning and behaviour plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour and social interaction in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Provide emotional support and develop trust-based relationships with students.
  • Support students both in the classroom and in therapeutic or sensory break-out sessions.
  • Record and report on student progress and behaviour regularly.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, anxiety, or behavioural needs.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach when dealing with challenging behaviour.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation, or positive behaviour support.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Psychology, Youth Work or Health and Social Care (preferred).
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
