Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)
Location: Sheffield
Salary Range: £95 -£120 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Time: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance. You will work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCO to provide tailored interventions, helping learners regulate emotions and achieve their full potential.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis, focusing on emotional regulation, engagement, and academic progress.
  • Develop trusting relationships with students to encourage positive behaviour and build confidence.
  • Assist in the delivery of personalised learning programmes and therapeutic strategies.
  • Maintain a calm, nurturing classroom environment where pupils feel safe and supported.
  • Monitor student progress and behaviour, reporting to relevant staff as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural issues, or complex needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships.
  • A patient, calm, and resilient attitude when faced with challenging behaviour.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches, de-escalation strategies, or restorative practices is desirable.
  • A relevant qualification in Education, Psychology, Youth Work, or Health and Social Care is advantageous.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
