Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)
Location: Sheffield
Salary: £95 - £120 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

This school provides a structured, supportive, and therapeutic environment for pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, and places wellbeing at the heart of learning.

Role Overview:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who struggle with behaviour, emotional regulation, or mental health challenges that impact their ability to access learning. You will deliver personalised support to help them develop social skills, improve emotional resilience, and successfully engage with their education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis to help regulate behaviour and manage emotions effectively.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and implementing individual support strategies.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to foster confidence and engagement.
  • Monitor pupil progress and maintain detailed records of behavioural and emotional developments.
  • Collaborate with SENCOs, teachers, and external professionals to provide holistic support.
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote a safe, nurturing learning environment at all times.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs or behavioural difficulties.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches, therapeutic strategies, and behaviour management techniques.
  • A calm, empathetic, and consistent approach when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a student-centred mindset.
  • Ability to remain composed, encouraging, and proactive under pressure.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, MAPA, or similar) are highly desirable.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
