GSL Education are looking for a dedicated and motivated Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic secondary school in Chesterfield. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and making a positive difference in the classroom.

About Your Role as a Secondary TA

In this role, you will work closely with teachers to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will help students to stay focused, understand lesson content, and develop confidence in their learning. The role includes both academic support and promoting positive behaviour and engagement in class.

Whether you're working with individuals or small groups, your support will play a key part in helping students reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities for Secondary TA:

  • Provide classroom-based support in a range of subjects across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
  • Assist students who need extra help with their work, including those with SEN or learning barriers.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour using positive strategies and clear routines.
  • Support students with reading, writing, numeracy, and subject-specific tasks.
  • Work alongside teaching staff to deliver planned activities and interventions.
  • Monitor pupil progress and share feedback with teachers and SENCOs.
  • Encourage students to participate actively and build self-confidence in their learning.

Candidate Requirements for the role of Secondary TA:

  • Previous experience working in a secondary school or with young people aged 11–16 is desirable.
  • A Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or above) is helpful but not essential.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Understanding of how to support students with SEN, including Autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties is a plus.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • A calm, patient, and flexible approach to working with teenagers.
  • Must have an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or be willing to apply through GSL Education.
